On the occasion of artist Maya Lin coming to China to speak at the Beijing Centre for Arts on “Shan Shui: Nature on the Horizon of Art,” Greater China Vice Chair Jeffrey Li hosted a dinner for C-100 members and friends. Jeffrey Li expressed high regard for Lin’s artwork and powerful message. Lin, a well-known advocate for environmental issues, talked at length and with strong conviction about bio-ethical living. Other C-100 members present were Handel Lee, Xiaobo Lu, and Hao Jiang Tian.
Lin also has an art installation in the lobby of the U.S. Embassy compound in Beijing. Pin River-Yangtze is a visual representation of the Yangtze River using 30,000 steel pins. In a press release from the Embassy, Lin was quoted: “I find inspiration in rock formations, water patterns, solar eclipses and aerial and satellite views of the Earth.” U.S. Ambassador to China Jon Huntsman personally welcomed Lin to the Embassy and invited docents to meet Lin and discuss her work, which is part of the permanent art collection of the Embassy and includes both American and Chinese artists.
