On March 1, Dominic
Ng, C-100 Chairman and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of East West
Bank, met with Tan Tianxing, Deputy Director of the
Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, People’s Republic of
China, at the Pasadena headquarters of East West Bank to discuss issues of
common concern.
On December 16,
Committee of 100 hosted a reunion for Bay Area-based teachers who participated
in the 2012 China study tour program. Nine teacher-participants reflected on
their China experience and its impact on their teaching methodology, as
well as their views on China. C-100 Southern California Regional Vice Chair Stewart
Kwoh presented an overview of C-100 programs and C-100 Member Leslie Tang Schilling provided a history of C-100’s Summer Teachers

From November 25 through December 3, the Committee of 100 led five journalists from U.S. media to China as part of its Educational Exchange Program. Journalist delegation participants were: Clive Crook, senior editor of The Atlantic and columnist at Bloomberg View; Brian Lehrer, host of The Brian Lehrer Show;WNYC, Winnie O’Kelley, deputy business editor of The New York Times; Gary Silverman, U.S. news editor and deputy managing editor of the Financial Times; and Jonathan Tepperman, managing editor of Foreign Affairs.

Taiwan
President Ma Ying-jeou hosted a group of Committee of 100 members in his office
on November 7, attended by Committee Chairman Dominic Ng, Ronnie Chan, David
Chang, Ta-Lin Hsu, Charles Kao, Howard Li, Paul Lin, Dazong Wang, and Ya-Qin
Zhang. Among the topics discussed were the Committee’s U.S.-China Public
Perceptions Opinion Survey 2012 and the outlook for cross-strait relations.
On
November 19, the Committee of 100 hosted a dinner meeting with current and past
participants in C-100’s Leadership Delegation Program, including journalists
from the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Financial Times, The Atlantic, New
York Public Radio, and WNYC. New York

On October 24, the Committee of 100 in partnership
with the China Studies Program at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced
International Studies (SAIS) convened China Policy Debate: Democratic & Republican
Presidential Race 2012. This was the only China policy-focused debate
endorsed by both presidential campaigns.

Los Angeles Mayor
Antonio Villaraigosa met with Southern California
members on August 7 to discuss the development of ties between Los
Angeles and China
since the February visit of Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping. C-100 Southern California Vice Chair Stewart Kwoh commented: “The Mayor has provided strong leadership to
expand tourism, investments and trade with China. The Mayor credited C-100 with helping make his
visits to China a success,
including a trip late last year during which he met with Vice President Xi, who
later visited Los Angeles
in February 2012.” Committee Chair Dominic Ng played a prominent role in hosting Vice President Xi
during his stay in Los Angeles.
The
C-100 - Wanxiang Teaching Scholars Program - under the U.S. State Department’s
100,000 Strong Initiative - marked the first collaboration between the Committee
and Wanxiang America Corporation. Built on the foundation of the Committee’s
Summer Teachers Institute, this year’s partnership with Wanxiang initiated a
new phase in C-100’s Educational Exchange Program with the integration of China’s
renewable energy developments and the inclusion of science teachers in the
program.
The U.S.-China Bi-national Commission on Building Trust and Enhancing
Relations held its first series of discussions in Washington, D.C. on June
20-22. The Commission is headed by Ernest Wilson III, Dean of the Annenberg
School for Communication and Journalism at the University of Southern
California, and Wang Jisi, Dean of the School of International Relations at
Peking University. In advancing C-100’s Public Diplomacy objectives, the Committee
is a Strategic Sponsor of the Commission.
Committee of 100 leaders had private meetings with several prominent Chinese leaders in the past few months to discuss the findings and recommendations of the recent U.S.-China Perceptions Survey and other topics of mutual interest.

In Beijing on May 16, C-100 Chairman Dominic Ng and Executive Director Angie Tang met with Chinese Minister of Culture Cai Wu. He was particularly interested in collaboration with C-100 on cultural exchanges between the U.S. and China.
