Recent events in U.S.-China relations--the purge of Bo Xilai and high-profile case of a blind Chinese dissident on the eve of the Strategic and Economic Dialogue--underscore the importance of candid communication and cooperation between Washington and Beijing and the people of both countries. In its efforts to deepen bilateral understanding and enhance people-to-people diplomacy, the Committee has made significant strides as evidenced in this month’s newsletter.
This May issue highlights the release of the U.S.-China Public Perceptions Opinion Survey 2012 and the 21
st Annual Conference. In a marked departure from past opinion surveys, the Opinion Survey 2012 integrated colorful infographics and dynamic data charts as well as introduced a first-ever survey microsite housed on the Committee’s website. Take a moment to view the
interactive survey site. Notable American and international media coverage of the Survey's findings, including radio, print and television interviews with C-100 members, elevated C-100's voice and visibility in the U.S.-China dialogue. As a testament to the timely relevance of the Committee’s mission, this year’s annual conference drew high-power speakers, including U.S. Secretary of Commerce John Bryson; Charlie Munger, Vice Chairman of Berkshire Hathaway; and Michael Milken, Chairman of The Milken Institute, among many others.
The individual involvement and collective support of C-100 members and friends directly contributed to the headway the C-100 team has made in recent months. I look forward to ongoing collaboration with each of you to increase and expand the Committee’s impact this year.
