Now a public diplomat based in Washington, D.C., Michelle Kwan was inducted into the United States Figure Skating Hall of Fame on January 28 at San Jose’s HP Pavilion, the arena where she won her first U.S. title at age 15 in 1996. Nine titles later, she was the most decorated ice skater in the U.S.
An ESPN W profile of Kwan noted, “Many will look at her and see the last in a long line of female figure-skating royalty from this country, with no clear heiress yet apparent.”
Kwan, a member of the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition, appeared in Iowa on February 9 with First Lady Michelle Obama at a “Let’s Move” rally with 10,000 school children.
