Three journalists who participated in past C-100 Leadership Delegations to China—Clarence Page (Chicago Tribune), John Byrne (Business Week), and Rekha Basu (The Des Moines Register)—converged on New York on January 31 for a Lunar New Year reunion dinner with New York area C-100 members and staff. New York Vice Chair Lulu C. Wang conceived of the gathering along with International Programs Committee Vice Chair David Chang, who helped plan the 2011 Journalist Delegation, Leadership Delegation sponsor Anla Cheng, and Vice Chair of Operations Clarence Kwan.

The reunion dinner was an opportunity for Committee members to re-engage with alumni of this ongoing series of Leadership Delegations (two more are planned this year). The conversation ranged widely, touching on U.S.-China security in the Asia Pacific, the U.S. presidential primaries, Chinese culinary customs, and real-life perspectives on “Tiger Mom” psychology. When Wang asked about the impact of the China trip on the journalists’ professional and personal perspectives, they reaffirmed the value of on-the-ground impressions of China and meeting Chinese from different socio-economic backgrounds and professions. The journalists reiterated their sincere appreciation for C-100’s generosity and its vision in providing a unique program to educate American journalists about China and U.S.-China relations.
C-100 Journalist Program Coordinator An Ping, Executive Director Angie Tang, and Director of Research Mercy Kuo also attended the dinner.
