In charting our course in the New Year, the Committee of 100 is poised to play a pivotal role in strengthening U.S. - China cooperation for 2012. With major political leadership transitions underway in the United States and Greater China, China issues are front and center in this year’s U.S. presidential and congressional elections. Beijing, Taipei, and Hong Kong are closely attuned to the tone and tenor of candidates’ attitudes toward key issues affecting bilateral relations.

As we forge ahead in 2012, our goal is to sharpen the Committee’s voice and visibility among key U.S. policymakers and thought leaders through our Washington D.C. Initiative and Mirror Survey on U.S. - China Attitudes and Perceptions. On a national level in coordination with the regional vice-chairs, we are concurrently ramping up program capabilities in education, diplomacy and leadership development across the United States. Moreover, the upcoming 21st Annual Conference in southern California this April promises to attract high-caliber participants from government, business, philanthropy, and entertainment. On an international level, C-100 members’ delegations to Beijing and Taipei and the Leadership Scholarship Program in China will play an even greater role in bolstering bilateral cooperation.
  
As you read this January issue, you will be impressed with the commitment and leadership of C-100 members and staff in executing programs that make a lasting difference in participants’ understanding of U.S.-China relations. The achievements of 2011 affirm the Committee’s increased focus on high-value programs that benefit local communities and advance the U.S. - China dialogue.
