The Ninth Annual Global Views Business Forum was held in Taipei November 1-2, hosted by Charles Kao, founder and CEO of Global Views Monthly, and co-sponsored by the Committee of 100. Kao and Committee of 100 Chairman Dominic Ng welcomed the gathering of Chinese entrepreneurs from Greater China and the United States.

“Innovations, Breakthroughs: Converging Global Technology, Capital and Talent” was the Forum theme, echoed in the opening speech by Taiwan’s President Ma Ying-jeou. Ma spoke about transforming Taiwan from an economy driven by ever greater productivity to one based on innovation and cultivation of talent and emphasized that cross-strait peace was critical to the success of Taiwan’s transformation.
Former Premier Lien Chan gave the closing remarks and expressed his deep hopes for close cross-strait cooperation in trade, education, culture, and science and technology on the 100th anniversary of China’s 1911 republican revolution.
Members David Chang, Roger Wang, William Wang, Ken Xie, and Ya-Qin Zhang addressed the participants. In a panel on medical innovations, Chang, Chancellor of Polytechnic Institute of New York University, said investment in innovations should be guided by how much they improved the lives of patients, citing microsurgery for reducing surgical risk and allowing patients to go home sooner. Vizio founder William Wang attributed his success in the American flat-panel television market to innovative outsourcing of engineering to Taiwan and manufacturing to China. A Global Views Forum award for outstanding leadership was presented to Wang at the closing ceremony.
