Wan Ling Martello, currently executive vice president of global e- commerce and emerging markets for Wal-Mart, will join Nestle SA, America as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, becoming the first woman to join the board of the world’s largest food company and one of the few executive board members promoted from outside the company.
Effective next spring, Martello will combine her experience as a financial officer (which began in 1985 with Kraft Foods and later with Borden Foods) with expertise in e-commerce and emerging countries, including China. Nestle plans to expand its business in developing countries from 30% to 45% of worldwide sales in the next few years. Martello speaks Mandarin, Hokkien Chinese, and Tagalog. She will be based in Vevey, Switzerland but plans to stay active in advancing the mission of the Committee of 100.
