
(New York- May 13, 2011)--Dominic Ng, Chairman and CEO of East West Bancorp Inc. has been elected as Committee of 100’s Chairman and will succeed John S. Chen on May 13, 2011 during the Committee of 100’s 20th Annual Conference in New York City.
Dominic Ng, a C-100 member since 2000, is Chairman and CEO of East West Bancorp, Inc., the parent company of East West Bank—one of the largest independent commercial banks based in California and the largest bank in the U.S. focused on serving the Asian American community. Ng is well known for his business, philanthropic and community leadership. He was the first Asian American Campaign Chair for United Way of Greater Los Angeles, raising record funds for the charity. Committed to promoting education and understanding of the Chinese culture and language in the U.S., Ng has led a number of important initiatives including the commission of a groundbreaking permanent collection of Chinese contemporary art at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. Ng serves on the boards of Mattel, Inc. (NYSE: MAT), Pacific Council on International Policy and United Way of Greater Los Angeles. Ng is co-chairman of Los Angeles’ Mayor’s Trade Advisory Council, a member of the California Commission for Jobs and Economic Growth and a past board member of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. Ng was twice named by Forbes as one of the 25 most notable Chinese Americans and the Los Angeles Times named him among the 100 most influential people in Los Angeles.

Offers advice for future generation at Committee of 100 annual conference
(New York—May 12, 2011)—United States Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke today addressed the 20th Annual Conference of Committee of 100, an organization of leading Chinese Americans.
Reflecting upon his upbringing and life experience, Locke recounted the challenges he faced as a child growing up in an immigrant family in Seattle and what led him to pursue a lifetime of public service. Locke praised the achievements of Chinese Americans, commended the work that the Committee of 100 has done to support the Chinese-American community, and urged Chinese Americans to be more active in politics and public service.

(New York City, NY–May 12, 2011)— Today, the Committee of 100, a leadership organization of Chinese Americans, presented its “Leadership Award for Advancing U.S.-China Relations” to Henry M. Paulson Jr, the 74th Treasury Secretary of the United States. The Award recognizes the tremendous contributions Secretary Paulson, who has visited China more than 70 times, has made to furthering strong ties between the U.S. and China, including his pioneer leadership of U.S.-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue (S&ED). The Award was presented to Paulson at the gala of the Committee of 100’s 20th Annual Conference, an event that was attended by more than 600 guests at The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Temple of Dendur in New York City.

Dominic Ng received the Treasures of Los Angeles Award from the Central City Association (CCA) on April 28. The awards luncheon at the Westin Bonaventure was attended by over 1,200 business, political and community leaders. CCA plays a key role in L.A. by bringing together business, government, cultural institutions and citizens to build a better economy and quality of life. Ng was honored for his outstanding business, philanthropic and cultural contributions to the region.

In our extraordinarily complex global political landscape, mutual understanding and collaboration between the United States and China is indispensable. This reality informs the theme of this year’s conference, “COMMON GROUND.” In gathering the best minds from politics, business and culture today, we seek to spark dialogue and deepen understanding of the key issues impacting both countries. I thank our Conference Co-chairs, sponsors, C-100 members, staff and volunteers for their hard work in ensuring the quality and success of this Conference. I am honored that my tenure as Chairman of the Committee of 100 culminates in the celebration of our 20th annual conference.
Since the inception of the Committee of 100 more than two decades ago, the continued dedication of our members and the support of our key stakeholders have enabled us to achieve real and measurable results. I am personally gratified to have played a role in our most recent successes in my role as Chairman for the past two years.

On March 25, Committee of 100 members in Beijing gathered for a dinner to honor the new U.S. Embassy’s Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM), Robert Wang. C-100 Vice Chair, Greater China Region, Jeffrey Li, welcomed members and guests and provided a short introduction to C-100 and its mission in China. DCM Wang briefed members on U.S.-China relations and described with excitement the nomination of Gary Locke to be the next U.S. Ambassador to China. Other members and friends present at the dinner were Dali Yang, C-100 Director Gareth Chang, Hou Ming, Rui Chenggang, Dazong Wang, Jenny Wang, Mary Wang, Katherine Xiao, Ya-Qin Zhang, and C-100 Consultant Su Cheng Harris-Simpson.

The Committee’s 20th Annual Conference Gala Dinner on May 12 in the Temple of Dendur, Metropolitan Museum of Art, will honor Liu He, Vice Chairman(Ministerial ranking), Office of the Central Leading Group on Financial and Economic Affairs, and Communist Party of China Secretary and Vice President(Ministerial ranking, Development Research Center of the State Council, who will receive the Committee’s Leadership Award for Advancing U.S.-China Relations. Fifteen young professionals in the fields of entertainment, law, business, government service, and entrepreneurial start-ups are being mentored by Southern California members in both individual and group sessions over a six-month period. C-100 Vice Chair Stewart Kwoh said that the goal of the mentorship program is “to develop strong leaders who are both successful in their careers and involved in the community, including U.S.-China relations.” Mentees also volunteer for a C-100 project, such as the regional conference now being organized by the Southern California members, “Mandarin in the Schools,” and the annual conference, which will be in Los Angeles in 2012.
