After completion of the $5.8 billion acquisition of Sybase by the German software maker SAP on July 30, Committee of 100 Chairman John Chen continues as CEO. In 1998, Chen became Chairman, President and CEO of Sybase, developing it into a highly profitable enterprise mobility and database company, which now is a subsidiary of SAP America.
Chen wrote a column for CNBC’s Guest Blog on August 5 about the importance of bilateral investment treaties (BITs) for smooth relationships with our largest trade partners, including China. “These agreements ensure that individuals and companies from one country get fair treatment when they buy stakes in foreign companies or innovative startups. . . . Without BITs, you end up with friction and barriers.” While attending the Lake Tahoe Techonomy 2010 conference sponsored by CNBC, Chen was interviewed about the rapidly growing empowerment of mobile computing for individuals and enterprises.
