The fifth annual C-100 Leadership Scholarship Program (LSP) Awards and Ceremonial Dinner was held June 8 at the Golden Eagle Summit Hotel in Nanjing, co-hosted by the Golden Eagle International Group and Nanjing University. Over 180 people attended the evening’s competition and awards ceremony, with many U.S. based C-100 members in attendance including C-100 Chairman John Chen, Adeline Mah, Linda Yang, and C-100 Executive Director Angie Tang. The LSP fund awards scholarships to distinguished students in China who demonstrate academic and professional excellence.
Special guests included Secretary Zhu Shanlu, Standing Member of Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Jiangsu Provincial Committee and Secretary of the Party’s Nanjing Municipal Committee; Hong Yinxing, Party Secretary of Nanjing University; Zhu Shanlu, Standing member of CCP Jiangsu Provincial committee and Secretary of CCP Nanjing Municipal Committee; and Christopher Beede, Deputy Principal Officer, U.S. Embassy.
This year’s LSP Planning Committee was led by LSP Chairman Tim Chen, with Jeffrey Li, Carter Tseng, David Chang, Mei Wei Cheng and Ya-Qin Zhang. Of the 28 scholarship winners, ten were selected to compete for the prestigious title of 2010 Class President. After initial run-offs, Wen Liang of Nankai University, Wang Weiran of Tsinghua University and Qi Shanshan of Sun-Yat Sen University emerged as the three finalists.
Qi Shanshan was selected by the evening’s judges as 2010 Class President, giving her the role of representing her class at C-100 events in China. As this year’s winner, Qi also will attend the C-100 annual conference in New York in May 2011.Without Roger Wang’s extraordinary generosity, as C-100 member and Chairman of the Golden Eagle International Group, the two-day program would not have been possible. He hosted the evening’s reception at the Golden Eagle Summit Hotel’s lovely Fairy Garden and the official awards ceremony and dinner in the hotel’s grand ballroom. In addition, he organized a day of meetings for C-100 members with Nanjing and Jiangsu government officials.
This year, a silent auction was conducted during the evening’s ceremony. Auction items included basketball memorabilia donated by NBA (China)—a Kobe Bryant-autographed basketball, a Kobe Bryant jersey, an official basketball signed by the Milwaukee Bucks and the Golden State Warriors who played the 2008 NBA pre-season games in China—as well as two Expo 2010 Shanghai 18K gold commemorative pin sets donated by Wang and a beautiful painting by Zhou Changxin donated by Mr. Zhou. The proceeds go into the LSP fund for next year’s scholarships.Nanjing Unversity hosted the June 8 afternoon mentoring session. Mentors were C-100 members Li, Chang, Tseng, Cheng, and Tim Chen and C-100 friends Bo-Ning Yang and Yong Rui. Over 60 students attended this engaging professional development event.
